Dog mix, often called dog food or dog chow, is a more difficult decision than you'd initially think. There are so many brands, flavors, and types to choose from, picking a certain combination can be quite tricky. This brief article is designed to make that choice easier, by going over a few simple aspects of dog food that will help you be informed about your next purchase. We'll also cover eating habits, and how to get a fussy dog to eat.
The most important thing to consider when choosing a dog mix is the dog's age. Certain types of food are more appropriate for certain ages. Puppies tend to need protein more than anything else, so choosing a hard food that has meat such as chicken or beef is a good decision. Smaller sizes of kibbles might be more suitable, as well. Older dogs might be easier to feed with soft food, and although it is costlier, it will keep their teeth from getting damaged and won't hurt their throat or gums. Adult dogs will likely eat just about anything you throw at them, but keeping their eating habits healthy is important.
Dog mix isn't everything - you have to know how to feed it to the dog, as well. Unlike cats, who will generally save most of the food you give them for another time they're hungry, dogs will usually power through just about any meal of any quantity. To avoid overfeeding, give your dog between two and four meals a day, amounting to a total of roughly one cup for every twelve to fifteen pounds of dog. This will keep them le ...

Janine asked: "My mom wants to get a dog, a small one though. We hear that its much easier to train mixed bred dogs and they are cheaper too. Do you know of any good breeds?"
Jayce m replied: "pomeranian chihauhau look on pet finder they barley ever have purebred and you can find one in your area"
Dragonfry replied: "Go to the local dog shelter and tell them your looking to adopt a small dog. Indicate what limits you have, such as nothing over 30lbs, or no long hair. Check the net for toy rescues in your area. Most rescues are fixed, have their shots, have known health and temperament issues and are looking for someone to love them. Or toss your cash away on some cross bred Designer mongrel and have no clue what your getting yourself into.
Best of luck and don't get the first dog you see. Have the whole family decide on the best dog."
chihuahua mama replied: "As the others pointed out, the shelter is your best bet. Get a chihuahua mix. Chis rule!"
Arcangel replied: "I have two little chihuahua/ dachsund boys. The most adorable things ever!"
sashaaspen replied: "chiuawau pomerainan"
ntimid8r replied: "I have a two year old chi-russel (chihuahua jack russell). She is 10 pounds and extremely smart, loveable and friendly. She does tricks. She has most of the jack russell traits. A little on the hyper side, but we take her for walks and let her play outside. Actually she hunts for lizards. We call her the Lizard Hunter. She does well with children. She is white with a brown spot on her back and ears. She has a brown circle around one eye. Anyway, I would suggest a chi-russell =0)"
gunmetal_xx replied: "My family took in two unwanted Chihuahua x Miniature Fox Terrier puppies a few years ago to find them new homes, and they were lovely little dogs. We found a home for one of them almost right away, but the other stayed with us for about a week, and within that time I really bonded with the little guy, he followed me everywhere, and he got on well with my cats and other dogs. Unfortunately he was run over shortly after finding a new home."
